Doritos is under attack from abortion activists after their controversial commercial premiered during Super Bowl.

Some people say that Doritos may have gone too far with their Super Bowl commercial. It showed a young couple in a doctor's appointment for an ultrasound. The would-be father was seen standing beside his wife during the procedure munching a pack of Doritos.

The Telegraph UK reports that the company is under attack by abortion activists because it showed the woman giving birth prematurely. Some critics even called the ad the "worst commercial of the night." According to News Australia, although the commercial received a number of viewers complaints, the man behind production viewed the matter differently.

Australian filmmaker Peter Carstairs, who was responsible for the Doritos "Ultrasound" commercial, was thrilled to find out that his piece was viewed by more than 62 million people. Although they didn't win the Doritos Crash The Internet competition, they came in second place against winner "Doritos Dogs."

"We didn't win but 160 million people saw it broadcast. And on the USA Today ad meter (which ranks viewers favourite ads played during the Super Bowl) we ranked number three. Ironically, we ranked above Doritos Dogs!" Carstairs said.

Although Castairs didn't win the competition he did score some major attention. The filmmakers said that the team aimed to be screened during Super Bowl and they managed to achieve that. Apart from the popularity, the commercial granted him meetings with some top agencies in Los Angeles.

Carstairs revealed his inspiration behind the commercial was one that was personal. He recalled the final ultrasound scan he had for his now 10-month-old son Freddie and that's what inspired the concept, Huffington Post Australia reported.

"I was interested in this collective thought that when you go into the ultrasound suite, mum is always incredibly connected to the baby and going through this life-affirming moment while dad, particularly in Australia, is usually in the corner watching the footy or on his iPad -- so that was the humour we wanted to find," the filmmaker said.

Although the Doritos "Ultrasound" commercial faced a lot of criticism from their audience, The Daily Signal website saw the humor behind it. They published an article that said that the commercial sheds some light of the reality of what parents really experience when they go through an ultrasound. Plus, the extra humor doesn't mean any harm.
