T-Mobile Looks To Redefine The Phone Number With DIGITS

By Staff Writer | Dec 08, 2016 | 07:45 AM EST

T-Mobile has made the new revelation of letting users have one mobile number across all the connected devices. Not only one number across devices but the new version called "Digits" lets you have multiple numbers on the same device. Ensuring easy switch across the numbers depending on the work being carried out. Estimated more than 30 million Americans carry multiple devices. So one can gauge the benefits of the new powerful version "Digits."

The next big question would be the cost? It is expected that it will cost an extra fee but the company has declined to reveal the price. COO Mike Sievert "This is not going to be treated as adding another line to your account. Expect us to be disruptive here."

What about the security? Well, one can easily provide the extra set of DIGITS any time if one is hesitant to provide his/her personal number. Along with that, it's easy compatibility with the latest smartphones in the market as it can be used with ease.

T-Mobile's engineers have built an entirely new IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) service management layer and Identity Management solution which has taken years of development. The result is providing identity to users rather providing authentication based upon the SIM card. The best explanation would be it's usefulness in businesses where it could be distributed among employees. Thus saving the company from investing big amount on desk phones. Also, the work of the whole team can be synchronised in one proper channel.

So is there any issue to be resolved? Well, yes as DIGITS doesn't support iMessage. The company wants to provide unruffled experience thus persuading participants not to use popular Apple application. Also, you will need to have a postpaid T-mobile account. The beta will be compatible with devices running Android 5.0 and above, iOS 9 and above, and Chrome and Firefox on the desktop. The success of DIGITS is to be time-tested as it could usher a new technology revolution or may flounder to gain popularity.
