Are you still waiting for your flabs to turn into abs and to finally flaunt that perfectly toned, bikini-ready body on the beach this summer? Worry no more because, according to experts, a combination of any fat burning food can help jumpstart a slow metabolism and help you achieve your desirable body weight.

Here is a list of the top 10 fat burning foods and why they are considered as the best:

Grapefruit. This citrus fruit may not be the miracle fruit it was previously known for in most fad diets, but it can still assist in weight loss. It mimics a "full stomach" feeling as it is a hydrating fruit.

Green tea. It is known to be the healthiest beverage, loaded with antioxidants that can boost metabolism and help increase the levels of fat-burning hormones, especially during exercise.

Egg whites. Egg white from a large egg contains about 17 calories without any fat and about 3.5 grams of protein; an egg yolk is about 55 calories, 4.5 grams of which come from fat. If you want to lose weight, it is better to consume the egg white alone. It has less calories but is rich in nutrients.

Whole grains. A study shows that a diet rich in whole grains can assist in weight loss and can help lower the risk of heart disease. It also contains complex carbohydrates, which are better than simple carbs (usually sugars). Whole grains are rich in fiber and are more satisfying to the appetite.

Dairy products. Adults who consume high-dairy diet can lose more weight than adults who don't incorporate any dairy products in their meals, a study reveals. If you are concerned with calories, there's always yogurt and feta cheese.

Kale. This vegetable is unusually rich in fiber, helping you get the bulk you need to avoid constipation and binge-eating, thus assisting in weight loss.

Chia seeds. A member of the mint family, they are high in protein and are known to trim your waistline. Once they convert to their gelatinous form in the stomach, they suck in 10 to 12 times of your weight.

Coconut oil. It's high in medium chain triglycerides (commonly called "good fat") and fatty acids that boost metabolism. These compounts are quickly converted to energy or turned into ketones, and is the basis for the ketogenic diet.

Salmon. Studies show that this fish is high in omega-3 fatty acids that promote the building of calorie-burning muscles in the body.

Whey. Most body builders consume this because, as studies show, it contains leucine, which is essential in protein synthesis (fatty acid oxidation) and can reduce stored fats in the body.
