Microsoft Surface Pro 4 features, price & review: 5 reasons why it will still crush the competition

The unveiling of Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 has garnered some good reviews making it something that should be anticipated when it gets released on Oct. 26.

The pre-order for the Surface Pro 4 is still on going and on first glance, the new device may not be as different as the Surface Pro 3. However, there have been a slew of upgrades in the 2-in-1 gadget.

Here are the new features of the Surface Pro 4:

1.) Core specs makes the Surface Pro 4 30 percent faster than its predeccesor

According to PC Advisor, the high end Pro 4 will come with a 6th-gen Intel Skylake processory with 16 GB RAM and 1 TB internal storage. The outlet adds that these specs make the device 50 percent faster than Apple's MacBook Air. However, accoring to PC World, the device can also be brough from mid to lower range as the units processing chips will be Core i7 and Core i5.

2.) Pro 4 is lighter, thinner and larger

The housing for the new device was shrunk to give room for a full-size USB. It is only 8.4mm and significantly lighter at 766g for Core M models. The screen is at 12.3 inches and has 50 million more pixels at 267ppi density which Microsoft calls PixelSense. The screen is installed with a 0.4mm Gorilla Glass and backlight unit with a new cooling system.

3.) New Surface pen is more refined

According to Wired, the Pro 4's Surface pen has a new touch controller chip which allows the device to easily and more effectively detect writing or doodles. It even has its own eraser as well which simulates writing a pencil on paper. The battery can last up to a year.

4.) Redesigned Type Cover keyboard

The keys are now spaced and the new trackpad is reportedly made of glass. The Type Cover will reportedly be sold separately at $130. However, another variant with a fingerprint sensor is available for $150, Engadget reports.

5.) High quality camera, video, & audio

The Surface Pro 4 comes with HQ camera, video and audio, according to Nerd Wallet. There is 5-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus which is also capable of 1080p HD video recording. The microphones and speakers are made with Dolby audio.

The standard price for a Surface Pro 4 with Intel Core m3, 4GB Ram and 128 GB storage with pen is at $899. The Intel Core i5 version is at $999 and comes with 4GB Ram and 128 GB storage. Other units can fetch a price of $1,499. According to Tech Times, to get the optimized and high end Surface Pro 4, a custom configuration must be done at the manufacturer's site.
