With the holidays looming, is it smart to buy the Apple Watch 2 or wait it out on its rumored release date on March 2016? Get the details here.

It is rumored that Apple will be making an event on March 2016 to unveil their new line of gadgets including the Apple Watch 2 alongside the iPhone 6C, CS Monitor reports.

While the holidays are a good time to splurge and treat yourself or a loved one to gadgets, is it really worth splurging for? The website says that the new specs for the second-gen Apple watch are still unknown, but there are rumors that it will have newer features and upgraded apps including iPhone-free Wifi, new FaceTime video camera, better sleep and activity trackers and more.

The website adds that there is a great deal for the first gen Apple Watch which is less $100 on all models if you buy it on Best Buy. This means that for the 38mm Sport, you only need to shell out $249. Additionally, Target sells the watch for $349 with a $100 gift card and B&H Photo and Video sells it for $299 with a $50 GC.

Value Walk reports that the preview of the new operating system for the watch provides clues about the second one. According to the new OS details, there will be a "time travel function" and new clock faces for the Apple Watch 2. Additionally, the new OS will make the wearable device less likely to rely on an iPhone. For apps and features, it will reportedly have weather updates and messaging that will be more independent which will make the gadget more of a standalone device.

For the design, there isn't much any difference from the first one. However, it is rumored to be much thinner and be more waterproof with an IP67 standard case which is similar to the ones used in the Samsung Galaxy line. It could be dustproof as well.

With regards to the Apple Watch 2 being more independent and leaning towards being a standalone device. The website adds that its health-tracking features might be improved which means that it could be intended to be a multi-purpose fitness band for people who are into sports or fitness in general.

Additionally, the battery life could also be increased by 40 percent. The first Apple Watch was released by April this year and since the rumors say that the second gen will be unveiled by March, it is likely that its release date will be by April 2016.
