While gasoline prices have recently dropped, most car buyers are still put off by vehicles having bad gas mileage with most of the major automakers already coming up with innovative ways to develop a more fuel-saving technology.

The 24/7 Wall St. reviewed 2015 and 2016 car models to come up with its list of the top ten cars with the worst fuel efficiency.

"To identify the cars with the worst gas mileage, [we] used data on estimated combined city and highway miles per gallon from the EPA. We only reviewed 2015 and 2016 models and used data on the 2016 model when available," wrote 24/7 Wall St.

"We further screened by eliminating any duplicate models, opting for the model and trim with the worst mpg. If multiple trim levels of the same model have the same fuel efficiency, we only looked at one model."

Among those cars who made the top twenty for this list, more than half were luxury cars that cost a minimum of $100,000 and four of which slightly cost half a million dollars. This means that manufacturers for these cars were not exactly giving fuel efficiency a lot of premium in the design. Most of the vehicles were designed for maximum speed and acceleration.

For the other cars who made the list, while they are not exactly supercars, they had to compromise fuel efficiency for the sake of utility. They were built on light truck frames, such as the two SUVs, two large vans, and two pickups which made the list.

Bugatti Veyron topped the list of cars with the worst fuel efficiency, according to 24/7 Wall St. The Veyron, which are capable of reaching 2.4 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, can only cover 10.4 miles per gallon. It has an MSRP of about $2.25 million, USA Today also reported.

At the second and third spot are the Mercedes-Benz AMG G65 and Chevrolet Express 2500 2WD Conversion Cargo. The AMG G65 has a combined MPG of just 11.6 (11 mpg in the city, and 13 mpg on the highway) for MSRP of $218,825 while the Chevrolet has miles per gallon of 11.9 and MSRP of $30,550. The two vehicles were designed for utility and for hauling cargo, respectively, which could explain their low efficiency.

The other cars completing the top 10 are: (4) the GMC Savana 2500 2WD Conversion Cargo with an MPG of 11.9, (5) the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster with an MPG of 12.2, (6) Ferrari FF with an MPG of 12.8, (7) Lamborghini Veneno Roadster with an MPG of 12.8, (8) Ferrari F12 with an MPG of 13.1, (9) Pagani Huayra Coupe with an MPG of 13.2 and (10) Mercedes-Benz G550 with an MPG of 13.4.
