British actor Alan Rickman has died at the age of 69 after battling cancer, leaving behind his wife and tons of fans saddened at his death.

Rickman was best known for portraying the role of Severus Snape in the “Harry Potter” films, as well as his role as the villain Hans Gruber in “Die Hard,” alongside Bruce Willis.

The multi-awarded actor, and his signature nasal baritone, ABC news reported, was apparently one of the most beloved by his co-stars in the numerous films that he was cast in. At his death, many of the actors and actresses who have either known him or have worked with him openly shared their sadness.

J.K. Rowling, maker of the famous “Harry Potter” series, tweeted her sentiments.

“There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death,” Rowling wrote. “He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.”

Daniel Radcliffe, who has developed a warm relationship with Rickman during his role as Harry Potter, posted his sadness on Google+. “As an actor he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child,” Radcliffe wrote. “Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career.”

Emma Thompson, who co-starred with Rickman in 2003's “Love Actually,” also gave a heartfelt statement about her friend, whom she considers her “ultimate ally.” "Alan was my friend and so this is hard to write because I have just kissed him goodbye," Thompson wrote, ABC News reported. "I consider myself hugely privileged to have worked with him so many times and to have been directed by him. He was the ultimate ally.”

These and many other actors and celebrities, including James and Oliver Phelps (who played Fred and George Weasley), Matthew Lewis, Stephen Fry, Harry Styles and Boy George shared their sentiments over the Internet.

Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, also shared her sentiments in her Facebook page, The Hollywood Life reported.

“I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor,” she wrote. “I’ll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you.”

Rickman is survived by his wife Rima Horton. They do not have children of their own, CNN reported.

The whole world will most likely miss the actor and his deep voice. RIP Alan Rickman
