For more than a year, "The Flash" fans have been rooting for Barry (Grant Gustin) to finally get the girl. The girl in question is Iris (Candice Patton), his childhood friend turned major crush that he had been pining for since the show debuted on The CW in 2014.

While he did briefly share a kiss with "Arrow"'s Felicity, it was seemingly just a friendly one, as in fact, she belonged to another television series, despite the crossover. So now that Felicity and Oliver Queen are together over at that other CW show, is The Flash finally getting some romance in his life, as well? Actress Candice Patton sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about the possibilities during the second half of season two.

"From what I’m seeing, the relationship between Barry and Iris will be strong on every Earth, to some degree. It’s safe to say that there is some sort of relationship-friendship between Barry and Iris on Earth-2," the 27-year-old actress explained. "I won’t say what that is or how that looks, but it’s safe to say they are friends and close to some degree no matter where we find them."

The last time viewers saw Iris, she was grieving the death of Eddie (Rick Cosnett), who sacrificed himself for the greater good. Needless to say, Iris is still dealing with that, including the illness of her mother, and the addition of Wally/Kid Flash to the family.

"The writers have done a really great job in letting the relationship between Eddie and Iris take its toll and time. We didn’t see her rush into a new relationship," Patton said. "We’ve given her the time to grieve and move forward. I think it’s time. I think she’s open. I think she’s ready for something new and ready to allow any possibility of love back into her life."

According to IGN, Patton also hinted at the possible relationship Earth 2 Barry and Iris have, saying that their relationship does transcend time and Earth and they somehow always collide no matter what universe they are in. The only difference? Patton says that Earth 2 Iris is "pretty damn tough" compared to the Iris viewers got to know during the first season.

Meanwhile, "The Flash" fans and viewers can expect more new faces and characters as the show returns from its winter break. Collider reports that Aaron Douglas will be entering the show to play The Turtle, while Danielle Panabaker's Dr. Caitlyn Snow will be featured as Killer Frost. Her on-screen fiance, Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) will also return as Deathstorm.

Check out the extended trailer of "The Flash" below, as the show returns to The CW tonight at 8 p.m.
