How would you want your Latin food to be served? Many food fanatics have different variations when it comes to cooking and the renowned radio personality, Angie Martinez, wants her Latin food to have a healthy makeover.

Latin dishes are just few of the most scrumptious in the world; however, sometimes, they can be bad for your diet especially if you are on a fitness program. That is why Martinez, also known as "The Voice of New York," wants people to get a taste of her own Latin food style. Her recipes are more suitable for people who would not want to ruin their fitness goal for a couple of Mexican barbecue.

Many people don't know that Martinez is also a cook. She has released her own cookbook, Healthy Latin Eating, which is becoming popular amongst the Latin or Hispanic communities.

Martinez, whose roots can be traced to Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, could not hide her affection towards Latin food.

"I love Latin food. I always have. But my family has always made it a certain way: fried, or double-fried, or three carbs on the same plate," said the former rapper and actress. "As I got older, I had to be more careful about what I eat and what I put in my body, and I became more conscious of weight and health."

Martinez then begun to do healthy makeovers on her food because she wanted to eat more of them often and not just on certain celebrations. She would eliminate white rice and replace it with brown rice. Sometimes, she would not include the rice in her recipe and mix it with lettuce wrap.

The New Yorker also admits on changing her grandmother's picadillo recipe. She calls it "turkey picadillo," eliminating the beef. She normally avoids frying her food to make sure she does not consume that much oil.

"I'd bake empanadas instead of frying them. I'd use more vegetables and less meat, she explained during her interview with Yahoo!. "Over the years, I developed a lot of those tricks to make my food-Latin food-but make it healthier."

Meanwhile, Martinez, along with Chef Angelo has created various Latin recipes for people suffering with diabetes. The recipes are included in his cookbook, which is already out in the market. This only shows that her Latin food makeover is also good for people with health issues, Latina reported.
