Detoxification or detox is the removal of toxic substances in the body. While our bodies have a way of removing some toxins in the body, a detox may help in removing some of the impurities.

There are many kinds of detox and although there are no scientific evidence that it offers health benefits, some people claim that it worked and helped them. One of which is soup cleansing, which is a liquid-based diet detox.

The founders of the soup cleanse are Angela Blatteis and Vivienne Vella. They also have a book named "The Soup Cleanse: A Revolutionary Detox of Nourishing Soups and Healing Broths from the Founders of Soupure."

Juice cleansing is a popular detox diet but she claims that it is not enough.

"Soup is food. It's incredibly satiating, very nutrient- and vitamin-rich," she said, as reported by the New York Daily News. "Juice was not designed to be a meal - you're flooding your body with sugar."

The soup cleanse diet takes about 1,200 calories per day and makes use of vegetables and nuts which are rich in protein and have less carbs. Juice cleanse on the other hand, makes use of fruits but the nutritious fibers and pulps are discarded which makes it less healthy than soup cleansing.

According to the outlet, the cleanse includes smoothies, drinks and soups that are packed with spices, ginger and veggies. For snacks, whole foods like celery sticks, cucumbers and almonds are suitable.

Stars who have tried soup cleansing are Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Michael Chiklis.

Additionally, soup cleanse can be for everybody including vegans and vegetarians. According to Mind Body Green, detoxing is about giving the body specific nutrients it needs while cleansing it.

For those without dietary restrictions, they can have soup made from bones of animals as it is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The blog has a recipe for Chicken Bone Broth that is rich as it is simmered for hours and hours. Vegetarians and vegans are recommended miso broth.

Miso is made from fermented soybeans and it is known for its high nutritional value and for being a staple in the Japanese diet. According to Care2, it is a complete protein as it has all essential amino acids. It is good for the digestion as it restores good probiotics in the good. It is also a good source of B vitamins, calcium, iron, potassium and vitamins K and E.

If you're interested in soup cleanse, there are many recipes found online but it is best to talk with your primary health provider.
