Any update by apple is a big news. Be it a product launch, upgrade, future plans or plain rumors. The buzz this company generates and the patronage of its diehard fans is unparalleled. There is endless speculation abut its future plans.

Considering Apple's trend of upgrading its various product lines annually, its surprising that Mac desktops haven't been upgraded in more than a year. Mac Rumors alleges that Apple's renewed focus on iPad left the Mac behind.

The iMac was last updated 433 days ago, Mac Mini 795 days ago while top of the line Mac Pro's last update was staggering 1,097 days ago!

The long update cycle fuelled the rumor of Apple discontinuing its desktop line-up to concentrate on portable devices. According to Tech Crunch, Apple CEO Tim Cook has put all rumors to rest by reaffirming that Macs are here to stay and great desktops are in the pipeline.

Posting to an employee message board Cook stated "Some folks in the media have raised the question about whether we are committed to desktops. If there is any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap."

In the modern on the move lifestyle, higher value is placed on portable devices as compared to somewhat fixed and larger desktops but Cook balances the constant comparison by citing Desktop's Bigger screen, Larger Storage and Memory, More Input/ Output options and Better overall performance.

Tim Cook didnt mention if the Desktop meant iMac, Mac Pro or both but he made it quite clear that new desktops will certainly be coming in near future.

When asked about Apple's greatest differentiating factor, Cook concluded it was the culture and people that put foundation for the company's success. He emphasised on the mantra that good is not good enough and going by Apple's quality assurance the statement certainly drives the point home.
