USADA issued a 17-month ban to the Brazilian UFC lightweight Carlos Diego Ferreira due to a positive result from prohibited drugs.

The Nevada Athletic Commission imposed only a year of suspension to Ferreira in June, but the UFC will consider the longer ban released by USADA. For this reason, Ferreira, 31-year-old will be able to return inside the ring September of 2017.

As per the MMA Fighting, Ferreira was tested on April 29 and found to be positive for Ostarine, which was confirmed during the preliminary NAC court trial.

Furthermore, Ferreira accepted consumption of a supplement containing 7-keto-dehydroepiandrosterone (7-keto-DHEA) as an ingredient listed on its label. He also stated that same with 7-keto-DHEA, ostarine came from the tarnished supplement, USADA reported.

The UFC fighter said he didn't know that 7-keto-DHEA was a banned substance. It was the same issue last month of prohibited substance which Lyoto Machida used. USADA also gave him 18-month of fight suspension.

Ferreira was tested at WADA-accredited laboratory in Salt Lake City and resulted positive for both 7-keto-DHEA and ostarine. USADA required him a 17-month suspension instead of the complete two years he is currently facing because his support from tarnished supplement was verified as lawful.

UFC fighter Tim Means also got a positive drug test result from ostarine. He was given a suspension but reduced to six months because USADA discovered that ostarine came from a tainted supplement he intakes.

However, the case of Ferreira, on the other hand, appears serious due to a 7-keto-DHEA contained within the product he is using.

Ferreira (12-2) beat his Canadian opponent Olivier Aubin-Mercier through a unanimous decision. It was his last battle at UFC on FOX 18 in New Jersey. His victory snapped a set of defeats to present lightweight rivals Beneil Dariush and Dustin Poirier.
