Even in our modern world which demands individuality and self-reliance, maintaining, getting in contact with family members or keeping a buddy is still an essential way to walk through life and embrace aging gracefully and safely.

We may have not thought about it very seriously but we need a companion, a health care buddy who is trained to take care or look after us when we grow old. Such a decision is comparable to our decision to get a Medicare or a special insurance that can take care of future health needs.

According to Huffington Post, a health care buddy can generally increase longevity as it can provide support to an aging person--be it mental, physical, emotional, social or psychological support. A buddy can be helpful especially to people with multiple chronic conditions in a way that they act like their personal organizers or a second pair of eyes who will remind them of what they have forgotten or when to take their medicine.

In the most delicate cases, a buddy can assist the aged as he/she transfers from one facility to another making sure that the patient has a representative who can speak to the doctor personally.

Actually, one does not need to rely solely on one buddy alone but with several buddies, given that your finances will allow you hire two or more.

Aside from keeping a buddy, also try to develop meaningful and lasting friendships. As mentioned in KXLY, the quality of friendships matter more than the number of friends that you have. It would be good if your friends are the ones who celebrate good times with you and, at the same time, will provide support when times are rough.

Generally speaking, friends can improve your health as it gives you the sense of belongingness and purpose and decrease stress levels among other benefits.

Also, stay positive. Eat healthy and be active all day through. Make sure to pack your diet with fruits and vegetables. Consider making red grapes, apples and giving up sweeteners in your diet. Stay hydrated and protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun by wearing sunglasses or staying under the shade.
