"xXx: Return of Xander Cage" just made its big screen debut over the weekend. The cast was star-studded, with Nina Dobrev joining the cast as Becky. However, a new report claims that the actress' fans may have shunned her latest project.

"TVD" Star Receives Consequence of Leaving Hit Series?

Nina Dobrev announced her exit from "The Vampire Diaries" in 2015 but fans of the series have been wanting to see her back. According to the latest rumors surrounding the actress, her departure from the show could have been one of the reasons why her fans did not support "xXx: Return of Xander Cage."

Dobrev has reportedly traveled to Brazil to be with Vin Diesel and the other cast members of the movie for the premiere night. She also purportedly made numerous appearances for promotion purposes. However, it appears that her supposedly numerous fans who loved "The Vampire Diaries" have decided to ignore the her new project.

Nina Dobrev's New Project Makes it Big Overseas

On the other hand, "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" did pretty well outside the country. According to Forbes, the film raked in $20 million in the U.S. but was able to garner $50.5 million overseas. This makes up for a total of $70.5 million during its weekend debut.

The movie is second in the box office hits for the weekend but it still made a considerable amount amid the mixed reactions from critics and moviegoers. "Split" is on the top spot with $40 million as its total weekend debut earnings.

Expert Suggests Potential Reason for Film's Flop

While there are rumors suggesting that fans who still feel bad about Nina Dobrev leaving "The Vampire Diaries" could have been the reason for the failure of "xXx: Return of Xander Cage" to gain a lot during its debut weekend, an expert thinks there's something more. Collider's managing editor Matt Goldberg believes it could have been "Diesel and his monumental effort to be cool instead of endearing."

Goldberg pointed out that in "Fast and Furious," Vin Diesel's character was someone who had a heart and cared for the people whom he loved. Xander Cage is a completely different and unlikely hero that moviegoers may find unacceptable. This could mean that it wasn't just the fans of Nina Dobrev who didn't like the franchise. It could also have been moviegoers who disliked Xander's personality and story.
