Dementia is a chronic or a persistent disorder of the overall mental processes that are caused by any brain disease or brain injury that is marked by memory disorders, changes in personality and impaired reasoning ability. Mental illness, madness, derangement, lunacy and insanity are some of the few symptoms of the disease.

According to Health Day, mentally stimulating activities play a significant role in protecting the human brain from aging. This can even help in case one is genetically prone towards Dementia.

As per HNV News, it has been found out that all kinds of activities that keep the brain busy such as using a computer, handcraft activities, playing games, etc. and even participating in various social activities helps to combat any form of age-related mental declination of the brain. The above-mentioned activities that have the capability to engage the mind actually plays a significant role in the reduction of the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment of the brain.

The researchers have also found out the great benefits of various types of mentally stimulating activities. Studies conducted have proved that these activities have even helped people who have apolipoprotein E (APOE) E4, which is a genetic risk factor for Dementia. The researchers of the Mayo Clinic USA carried out research on more than 1900 for around four years on healthy men and women when their average age was about 77 years.

During the period of study about 450 participants developed mild cognitive impairment where a slight decline was noticed in memory and thinking skills marking the first step towards developing Dementia. But the great thing that was seen by the researchers was that the risk considerably went down when the participants were engaged in some mentally stimulating activities, which they were allowed twice per week. So, it proved of having a positive effect on fighting Dementia. Stay active, stay healthy and fit!
