The foremost problem with previous reports was in assessing the samplings of heavy and moderate drinkers. The group of 'nondrinkers' and 'drinkers' were previously taken as a homogeneous group while assessing the risk factors. However, the recent research conducted by UK group discloses the mystery and thereby leaves many vital questions answered.

The UK group in their study classifies the 'nondrinkers' and 'drinkers' into further five subsections- nondrinkers, former drinkers, occasional drinkers, moderate drinkers and heavy drinkers. In the study, hardly much difference was found between the health conditions of nondrinkers and moderate drinkers.

According to Live Science, the research went strongly for moderate drinkers were it was revealed that they are less prone to be diagnosed with conditions such as chest pain, heart failure, stroke and peripheral artery disease. The interesting fact is that the moderate drinkers are not only less likely from heavy drinkers to show signs of heart and respiratory failure but that they are less likely from nondrinkers as well to show such signs. Therefore moderate drinking scored major brownie points there.

The research found not much support for the heavy drinkers. Heavy drinkers are prone to conditions like heart failure, cardiac arrest, peripheral artery disease and stroke. Symptoms of the heart attack, though, were less than moderate drinkers, but that was the only negligible exception. Also for heavy drinkers chances of other diseases are more than a heart attack, revealed WebMD.

The report was not without its problematic. As in all cases, it was an individual preference that was accorded as the only reason for placing the sample individuals within the five groups. Therefore, the reliability of what they say to be can be questioned. Moreover, the groups are not closed and limited so a heavy drinker before can now be a moderate drinker. This puts the findings into a dilemma, and thus, people are more likely to be confused about the matter!
