News about the possible release date and specifications of the Surface Pro 5 has long been swirling around in the Internet. After unveiling the Surface Book i7, Studio, and Dial last year, many have been wondering when the next biggest update of Microsoft will be. While there is still no official details yet, here is what we know so far of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro.

PC Advisor reports that the Surface Pro 5 will come with an all-improved Surface Pen. The built-in stylus of Surface Pro tablets will now come with a rechargeable battery that can be charged wirelessly when magnetically attached to the tablet. The current stylus is not rechargeable requiring an alkaline AAA battery. It is also rumored that the Surface Dial that came with the Surface Studio will now also come with the Surface Pro 5.

Reports also point to the Surface Pro 5 carrying Intel's latest generation processors either the Skylake or Kaby Lake. However, since Microsoft has demoed Windows 10 running on an ARM processor, it is likely that Microsoft will switch to a Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chip for longer battery life. It was also believed that the new Surface will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 635 which could give the tablet LTE mobile connectivity.

Following the lead of Apple on its MacBook Pros, Cnet reveals that Microsoft is likely to add USB C port to the Surface Pro 5. Photos also revealed that the new Surface will come in two versions-the Pro 5 will likely be powered by Kaby Lake and the non-Pro version may utilize an ARM chip. It is also speculated that the new Surface Pro will come with a 2k screen with 4k options available to those who are willing to pay additional cash.

As for the release date, it was rumored that the Surface Pro 5 will be launched in the first quarter of 2017 but it is already the 2nd quarter so the guessing game continues. However, just like in 2015 and 2016, the new Surface will most likely be launched in October 2017.
