TV series come and go but if viewers are emotionally invested on a show, there is always that twinge of separation as they say goodbye to well-loved characters and the story itself. Such is the feeling fans get with the impending end of "Downton Abbey" as the cast shoot their sixth and final season.

Fans Will Feel Contented, Not Cheated

Julian Fellowes, the show's creator, revealed in his interview with The Wrap, that the main theme for most episodes will be about "resolution". As characters have a story of their own, Fellowes hinted that some endings will be happy and some endings will be sad. However, he is also making sure that the final episode of the show will leave fans feel contented, rather than feel cheated.

Extending to Six Seasons

When the show was originally planned, it was meant to last for five seasons only, Fellows told the Variety. But when they started filming, he realized that they did not have that much time to wrap everything up in just five seasons.

The first seasons started in the year 1912 with a slight mention of the sinking of the Titanic. The focus of the time era is to show how life was for English Aristocrats before, during and after the war. When asked if the sixth season would involve the Nazi regime during the 1930s, he negates by saying that he would not be the right person to write about it.

Spotted Returning Characters

The last episode of the show's Christmas special left fans mourning over the departure of Tom Branson, played by Allen Leech. However, Express reports that they spotted Leech filming scenes at the Brooklands Museum of what appears to be a motor race. This is such a balm to the aching hearts of fans who felt like it was the last they could see of Mr. Branson when he said goodbye in the Christmas special.

Henry Talbot (Matthew Goode) and Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen) were also spotted. This hints that the pair are still racing to win Lady Mary's (Michelle Dockery's) heart.

Fans also look forward to the stories of the characters they have loved (and hated, but understood) in the series: Robert Crawley, Lady Edith, Carson, Bates, Thomas, Mrs. Hughes, Anna, Cora, Daisy, Mrs. Patmore, Violet, and a whole lot more.

Fellowes' Bittersweet Note

For seven years, Julian Fellowes has worked with the characters of "Downton Abbey". He said that he felt sad that it has to end, like most of the things he created. But he also shared, "At the same time I don't think we've done the wrong thing. I've never felt, 'Oh my God, what are we doing? This is a mistake!'"

Fellowes is also working on a new series called "Gilded Age". As he bids farewell to his Oscar-winning Downton Abbey, he regards this as an "extraordinary adventure" and that if this would be his last hit, it would not be a bad thing to have.
