Lack of time is the usual excuse people make to avoid doing exercises and workout. They continue to whine that they are unable to hit the gym or even jog around the park because they are too busy trying to beat deadlines or keep up with other duties.

However, it looks like these people wouldn't need the same excuse anymore. A new trend called the "High Intensity Interval Training" or HIIT is quickly becoming popular among fitness junkies because it only needs a few minutes of their time.

Pop Sugar writes that according to American College of Sports Medicine, a new and quick circuit workout will definitely burn up all the excess fats in an individual in just a short period of time. The key is to keep the intensity high and make the rest time short for a person to maintain one's urge to push oneself. Best of all, an individual who would want to try this will only need a chair and a mat.

Daily Mail UK adds that HIIT is further backed up by another study, this time from the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, stating that this type of high intensity workout is very effective and has a lot of variations. In their study, the team has been able to observe 16 adults doing intense workout for 20 minutes and lunges with short recovery periods in between exercises.

The study concludes that the participants were able to burn an estimated 15 calories per minutes, making it a highly effective weight loss management workout.

The most popular types of HIIT available in the local gyms are the following:
• GRID or an intense circuit class that allows individuals to burn up to 900 calories for 30 minutes.
• Rebellion by brainchild Julia Buckley which combines weight lifting, core stability exercises, and short bursts of efforts that can last from 20 to 40 minutes and can burn around 400 calories.
• Podium Effect by Olympian Louise Hazel which can last from ten to 30 minutes a day.
• Primal Series which uses traditional exercises like squats and twists, Kettle bells, slam balls and the like for 30 minutes and is guaranteed to help lose 500 calories per workout.

The Evening Standard UK infers that with the rise of HIIT, more people will realize that an intense workout done very rapidly can increase a person's metabolic rate, which in turn can enhance its fat-burning capabilities. This will make the body more efficient when it comes to burning excess energy.
