Eminem admits that his 2010 album, "Recovery," also talks about his weight loss struggle after being hospitalized for overdosing on pills in 2007. In an interview with Men's Journal, Eminem explained that he believes the pills he was taking at the time probably contibuted to his weight gain.

"In 2007, I overdosed on pills, and I went into the hospital. I was close to 230 pounds. I'm not sure how I got so big, but I have ideas. The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I'd been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid stomach ache, I was constantly eating - eating badly," said the Detroit diamond.

While sobering up, Eminem replaced his addiction for pill with an addiction for exercise instead, stated Vibe. The Inquisitr explained that initially he would run to help him fall asleep, since he had trouble sleeping without drugs.

He eventually developed a liking to exercising and running at least seveteen miles on the treadmill everyday. He told Men's Journal that he would run 8 and a half miles in the morning before going to the studio and another 8 and a half after returning home.

The songwriter went on to explain that he could understand why people could easily replace a bad addiction with exercise.

"I got an addict's brain, and when it came to running, I think I got a little carried away. I became a f***king hamster," he said. The "Mockingbird" rapper even admitted to becoming a little obsessed over his calorie intake and made sure he burned at least 2,000 calories a day.

His obsession seemed to have had some benefits as he brought his weight down to 149 pounds. However, Eminem confessed that he became so obsessed about exercising that he started getting injured.

Vibe clarified that the rapper's constant running took a toll on his hip flexors. As a result, Eminem had to find an alternative workout to his running.

Now, the record producer uses at-home workout DVDs, like Shaun T's Insanity workout or Tony Horton's P90X routin, to safely stay in shape and maybe lose some more pounds.

NME added that Eminem's workout routine also involves Sagi Kalev's Body Beast excecises.

He did admit to still being a little OCD over his overall fitness and well being. "I feel like if I step away from it for too long, if I have a crazy week and take a five-day break, it'll be like starting over..."

Additionally, he stated that staying away from exercise for too long might make him lose his motivation. "Once you're at a place where you've made progress and you've go some time invested in it, you don't wanna quit and give up what you started," he said.
