Losing weight can be a daunting task. It's already hard enough that we have to cut down on sweets and other "sinful" foods we habitually eat. However, there are "miracle" foods that can help you shed calories as you're snacking.

There are some foods that can help boost your metabolism and other foods have thermogenic effect, which Health says are foods that will "burn calories" as you're eating.

Here are foods that combine healthy eating and calorie-burning in one go:

1.) Hot peppers

Spicy hot peppers not only add flavor to your meal but according to WebMD, it may help burn extra calories and fat as well. A component found in peppers similar to capsaicin called dihydrocapsiate (DCT) can help burn calories but without the "hotness" of the pepper, according to a study.

2.) Onions

These vegetables are not only an essential ingredient in many recipes, it is beneficial for the health too. According to Live Strong, onions are rich in fiber, nutrients and the antioxidant quercetin, which may all help in weight loss.

3.) Tomatoes

Japan researchers have found that tomatoes have a substance that can trigger the DNA which help burn fat in the body. According to Slism.com, tomatoes can reduce the amount of neutral fat in the body and also prevent metabolic syndrome including increased blood pressure, high glucose level and abnormal cholesterol levels, to name a few.

4.) Asparagus

This guilt-free low-calorie food is a natural diuretic, according to Fox News. It can also help break down the fat in the body.

5.) Cauliflower

According to Daily Mail, cauliflower has no fat and is high in fiber, vitamin C and K. The current food trend involving this vegetable is being used as an alternative for rice, mashed potato and even pizza.

6.) Walnuts

According to Body Building, walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3s, which for every ounce of walnuts give 3g of alpha-linolenic acid.

7.) Turnips

According to Shape, turnips are only 34 calories and are high in vitamin C and can help detox the body.

8.) Berries

Berries are tasty, nutritious and a great snack alternative. Berries such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries contain lots of antioxidants and can help burn off fat.

Raspberries have ellagic acid which have been known to kill cancer cells, while blueberries contain the highest amount of antioxidants. Blackberries can help reduce blood pressure and cholesterol as well as prevent diabetes. Strawberries have the highest amount of vitamin C and have the lowest calories of all, according to How To Learn.

9.) Citrus fruits

Fruits such as grapefruit, lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines, guava and papaya are high in nutrients, fiber and vitamin C. According to Live Strong, these components are vital contributors to losing weight.

10.) Green tea

If you're trying to lose weight, go for green tea instead of coffee. According to Idiot Fitness, green tea has cancer-preventing antioxidants that can also help burn fat and increase metabolism. Its caffeine content is much healthier than the one found in coffee as well.
