The Colorado from General Motors' automobile division Chevrolet has been leaving its rivals in the dust lately when it comes to the pickup truck race. Once again, Motor Trend magazine has named the Colorado as Truck of the Year for two consecutive years.

The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado bested all the other trucks from the competition, such as the Toyota Tacoma, the Nissan Titan XD, the GMC Canyon and Sierra 1500 and General Motors' own Chevrolet Silverado 1500, according to Vine Report.

Meanwhile, its smaller counterpart, the Chevrolet Camaro also adds another accolade for General Motors when it took home the Car of the Year award, while the Volvo XC90 was recognized as the best vehicle in the SUV class for the year.

The Colorado has also been doing good in terms of sales, along with its sister vehicle, the GMC Canyon. From January to October of 2015, more than 70,000 units of the pickup truck were sold, while close to 25,000 Canyons were already out on the road for the same period. The Colorado is now General Motors' eighth most popular model, USA Today wrote.

And, here are five reasons why the Chevrolet Colorado 2016 is the best pickup truck of the year.

1. The Motor Trend based decision to hand the award to the Colorado is prim.arily because of its powerful engine. The 2016 Colorado runs on a 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine, making it the only mid-size truck to have such power other than the GMC Canyon.

2. The Car Connection wrote that the Colorado rides on a fully boxed frame with coil front suspension with electric power steering a standard across the lineup, four-wheel drive is an option and four-wheel disc brakes with long-life rotors are standard. All these make the Colorado's ride and handling far better compared to the Tacoma and Frontier.

3. The Colorado also prides itself when it comes to the interior. It comfortably sits two passengers in the front, while giving the driver a more natural driving position than the Tacoma or Frontier.

4. The Duramax diesel engine of this truck can also produce 369 lb-ft of peak torque at just 2000 rpm, which means that it is also the best compact truck yet devised for towing duty, according to Car and Driver.

5. The Colorado Duramax model is also very quiet with the turbo noise almost non-existent, Edmunds.com wrote. It can be used for everyday purpose and not too big for most garages.

The truck is available at a base price of around $21,000 and could go up to as much as $36,000 for the more premium models. It is available in more than 10 colors like summit white, red rock metallic, wheatland yellow, tangier orange, rainforest green metallic, doeskin tan, brownstone metallic and black.
