Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton are both known for their passionate advocacy for children's mental health issues. In fact, during Princess Kate's appearance at the conference held by Place2Be, a charity that supports children's mental health, she gave a speech on the importance of supporting a child's emotional, physical, and academic well-being, TV Guide reports.

"It is our duty, as parents and as teachers, to give all children the space to build their emotional strength and provide a strong foundation for their future," the mother of two said. "Imagine if everyone was able to help just one child who needs to be listened to, needs to be respected, and needs to be loved - we could make such a huge difference for an entire generation."

People reports that the royal couple was also on hand during en event held by Mind, a nonprofit organization that provides advice and support to empower those who are experiencing mental health problems and campaigns to raise awareness on these issues and promote understanding. Mind is one of the royal couple's key charities, and the organization held an art and photography exhibit to help build self-esteem among the youth.

"They're great ambassadors for mental health. It allows us to tell a story to a wider community," Mind chief executive Paul Farmer told People. "I am so impressed by the commitment the couple has to this issue of mental health. It is an issue that has been ignored for too long."

According to the Mental Health Foundation, about 25 percent of the UK population will experience some kind of mental health problem in the span of a year, and depression affects one out of five older people. Additionally, only one out of 10 prisoners have no mental disorders. Mental health is a key issue in the U.K., and the royal couple is determined to raise awareness to help those who are suffering from it.

"It is hugely important and it breaks the stigma down. And they do that in a sensitive way," Farmer said. "By showing interest and listening to what people are doing and asking key, relevant questions."

Farmer added, "People are talking about their commitment and people are beginning to notice their support for mental health as a cause at a time when mental health services are under a lot of pressure."
