Judging from the latest tally of units sold, the PlayStation 4 is poised to give its older brother, the PlayStation 2, a run for its money in terms of total sales. Well, the PS4 still has a long way to go before it could surpass the total sales of 155 million PS2 units, which is currently the best-selling video game console in history. But it is definitely on the right track.

Sony PlayStation 4 remains one of the hottest merchandise in the gaming console market exceeding the 30-million mark in total units sold after only two years upon its release. This was the fastest rate of sales in any PlayStation system, according to Sony.

The USA Today reported that PS4 has also built a considerable lead over its rival Microsoft's Xbox One. The two consoles were released back in the latter part of 2013, with just a difference of one week. According to the sales figure of Xbox One in 2014, the Microsoft console was able to sell 10 million units. The company has yet to follow up on the data.

"We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago," said Sony Computer Entertainment president and CEO Andrew House in a statement. "We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation."

Meanwhile, the action-adventure stealth video game "République" will be released for PS4 early in 2016, wrote Segment Next. The game will be priced at $24.99 USD both in retail stores and online.

The gameplay involves controlling a young captive inside a totalitarian state called the Metamorphosis and ruled by an omnipresent Overseer. The female character named Hope will need the player's help to stealthily guide her to freedom by using her stolen character, which allows the player to hack the surveillance network.

The music video game "Rock Band" from developer Harmonix will also make it to PS4 with its fourth installment. The gameplay in "Rock Band 4" is mostly unchanged from previous versions of the game, says PC Mag. One to four players can play at a time, to simulate music with their guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. The game's package includes a guitar controller, a wired USB microphone, and a drum controller with stand and drumsticks.

SNK Playmore, the developer of the fighting game series "The King of Fighters," announced that their latest offering "King of Fighters XIV" will be exclusive to PS4, according to IGN. The game is expected to be released sometime in 2016.
