'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' Reboot Happening; Will Smith Signs Up as Producer

The "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" is back on television and no, it's not going to be a re-run of the old episodes because Will Smith has just confirmed that he's bringing back the glorious 90s era for the new generation to enjoy.
Smith confirms that a reboot of the show that made him a household name is happening anytime soon and he has just signed up to be its producer, New York Daily News reports.
Overbrook Entertainment, a production company that Smith owns, is set to bring back the "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" show and will add a modern twist to the plot. Although there are no other details provided, the company promises that it will retain the original spirit that made the show a hit. Finalization of the pitch is coming to a close and they're just waiting for a TV network to buy it.
Furthermore, it looks like a family collaboration is also at play as Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith and her brother Caleeb Pinkett will be part of the producing team, adds Philly.
Rumors have it that NBC Entertainment is the main TV network being considered by the production company but according to the network's chairman Robert Greenblatt, there are no negotiations yet. However, they are more than willing to talk to Smith about a possible reunion.
MTV writes that the reboot is very timely in releasing its announcement due to several rumors of old 90s favorites, like "Full House" and "Xena", being revived as well.
The "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" is one of the vehicles that made Smith well-known in the comedy genre with his antics as a fiction-version of his self, aptly called Will. The show ran for six seasons from 1990 to 1996 on NBC, making the flat top haircut and wearing Air Jordans trendy to youngsters at that time.
No confirmation yet from the production company if they will reprise the characters of Clinton, Hilary and the rest of the gang or if they will be introducing a new breed of characters.
However, some fans of the show are skeptical if the reboot will get the same warm reception as the original version because of the big difference in the plot setting, Bustle comments.
Another factor that worries fans is the lead actor because at the end of the day, it's his charisma and energy that will make the show successful. Smith has the makings of a phenomenal artist and if they are unable to get someone who can beat his personality in this day and age, then the reboot will probably have to rely on more star power to stay.
