Nat Wolff has been cast as Light Yagami in the Hollywood adaptation of the popular anime "Death Note."

According to Variety, Wolff's final negotiations to star in "Death Note" for Warner Bros. with director Adam Wingard are taking place. The producers are Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka.

The animation was adapted as a live action movie in Japan where it also had a sequel.

Jeremy Slater wrote the recent script draft, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Brian Witten and Doug Davison will be the executive producers of the movie.

"Death Note" is a manga series authored by Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated byTakeshi Obata. It follows a smart high school student, Light Yagami, who acquires a mysterious notebook called the Death Note. It is created by death gods or what the Japanese call as "shinigami."

According to Dread Central, whoever's name is written on the notebook will die. After knowing the capability of the Death Note, Yagami decides to cleanse the world of what he deems as evil and as people notice, he is dubbed by them as "Kira". He is tracked down by an eccentric and genius detective by the name of "L."  As L continues to hunt "Kira," a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse ensues.

According to IGN, "Death Note" will begin production in spring next year. Nat Wolff has previously appeared in the movie adaptations of John Green's "The Fault in Our Stars" and in "Paper Towns."

The next and third film that will be based on John Green's books will be his 2005 debut novel "Looking For Alaska." In an interview with MTV, Wolff revealed that he wants to be included in the third film based on Green's books despite being on the first two.

In the first book-turned-movie of the same name based on Green's novel "The Fault in Our Stars," Wolff played Isaac, a supporting character with an eye cancer and the best friend of Augustus Waters (played by Ansel Elgort), the main protagonist. In the second movie, Wolff played Quentin Jacobsen or "Q," who is the main protagonist and childhood friend of Margo Roth Spiegelman (played by Cara Delevingne).

When MTV asked if Wolff is going to be in "Looking for Alaska," the actor revealed that it will be produced by Ryan Murphy.

"There better be a part for me! Better be writing me a part, better be a frat guy in his 20s. Ryan Murphy's gonna produce it," Wolff answered.

If asked what part he would play, the actor said:

"I could, or I could just play Alaska. They haven't found the girl. I could break the hearts of a lot of actresses out there and take it.

"They were freaking out enough when I was not blonde and I was playing Isaac, so I think they're gonna freak pretty hard when I'm playing Alaska. But you can report that, I will be playing Alaska," Wolff joked.

In another article by MTV, it stated that Becca Thomas will be directing the movie.
