Pixel C specs & news updates: latest tablet is Google's answer to the iPad Pro, Surface Gen

Google presents its new tablet Pixel C to rival Apple's iPad Pro and Microsoft's Surface Pro.

Google's Pixel C (short for Convertible) is similar to the company's Chromebook Pixel. According to Anand Tech, both devices are designed by Google and have the same attributes save for its operating system which is Android instead of Chrome OS.

The Pixel C comes in a 10.2" IPS display with a 2560 x 1800 resolution and 308 ppi pixel density. The display will also be using an LTPS backplane for increased brightness. Pixel C has the Nvidia Tegra X1 SoC processor. According to the website, X1 has 2 MB of L2 cache, four A53 cores and a quartet of ARM Cortex A57. The GPU is a 256 core Maxwell. The Pixel C also has 3GB RAM.

The most interesting part, according to The Verge, is Pixel C's keyboard attachment. The keyboard is connected via Bluetooth and has the same shell as the tablet itself. Interestingly, the keyboard only needs to be charged once in a while, and one good charge can last up to two months.

The keyboard can be attached to the tablet through its magnet. The great thing about this is that you can arrange the tablet and keyboard any way you want, like a folded laptop, prop the screen against the keyboard like a laptop or fold it behind the tablet to hide it.

According to Wired, the Pixel C can be yours at $499 for the 32GB tablet and $599 for the 64GB tablet. The keyboard is bought separately at $149.

As for the iPad Pro, the Guardian reports that the tablet has been supersized at 12.9 inches.

"We asked ourselves, how could we take iPad even further? Now we have the biggest news in iPad since the iPad - the iPad Pro the most powerful and capable iPad we've ever created," said Apple's chief executive officer Tim Cook at San Francisco's event. The iPad Pro reportedly has the new A9x processor, undoubtedly faster and better in graphics than the A8x in iPad Air 2. The iPad Pro is a little bit thicker than Air 2 at 6.9mm thickness and will have 10 hours battery life.

"It's faster than 80 percent of the processors of portable PCs that were shipped in the last 12 months, and faster than 90% of the graphics of the portable PC shipped," said Phil Schiller from Apple.

The iPad Pro will be available in silver, space grey and gold with a retail price of $799 for the 32 GB and $1,079 for 128 GB with 4G connectivity.
