'Resident Evil 4' release date, news & update: game coming to Nintendo Wii U for Halloween

A Wii U edition for "Resident Evil 4" has been slated to be released on Oct. 29 for European gamers via eShop, according to Capcom.

According to Game Rant, "Resident Evil 4" Wii U edition will be sold for £17.99 starting Oct. 29—just in time for Halloween. There is a 25-percent discount for those who can buy the game before Nov. 5. Additionally, the outlet adds that the game may be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the future as Capcom has stated that they may be releasing HD remasters of past games due to the success of "Resident Evil HD."

The announcement was made through the Twitter account of Nintendo of Europe which tweeted the news last Oct. 23.


According to a report by Destructoid, the Wii version of "Resident Evil 4" was considered to be the best version of the game despite it not being in the same level, graphics-wise to its PS3 or Xbox 360 counterparts.

The Dread Central reports that the fourth game of the franchise is "one of the defining games of the sixth generation, but also one of the most influential games of all time" because it pioneered "over-the-shoulder shooting mechanics" which has been noted in third person action games since its release. The game was noteworthy of its enemy AI and take on quicktime events as well.

"Resident Evil 4" was originally released on Jan. 11, 2005 by Capcom and has been rated M for Mature because of its violent and gory nature. It stars US Agent Leon Kennedy who is tasked to save Ashley Graham, the President's daughter after being kidnapped by a cult. To pursue the kidnappers, Kennedy flies to a European town infected by a virus which has turned its inhabitants into non-human creatures. He will be battling various manners of creepy creatures as he pursues his mission to save Ashley.

In the gist of the scuffle, he will meet Ada Wong, a spy that was first introduced in "Resident Evil 2."

According to Christian Post, the popularity of "Resident Evil 4" garnered it with numerous awards in 2005, including a "Game of the Year" title.

"Resident Evil 4" Wii U edition will be available for European gamers starting Oct. 29. There is no word whether the game version will be released to North America.
