"Gran Turismo Sport" was revealed at Paris Game Week 2015 but Sony says that the game is entirely new and not "Gran Turismo 7."

"Gran Turismo Sport" is developed by Polyphony Digital and it is a racing game. However, it is neither a prologue nor the seventh installment of their well-known franchise.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president and CEO Jim Ryan clarified via Eurogamer that it is more than just a prologue as it connects gamers around the world via the Internet.

"We're not announcing Gran Turismo 7 at this stage," said Ryan to the outlet. "Fair to say [series director Kazunori Yamauchi] has been making these games for some considerable time now. I think it's reasonable to assume that something else might come down the road. Is it a Prologue? No, I think it'll be more than that.

"The old days, when the games were offline, the experience was defined by what's on the disc. You had a distinction between a Prologue and a full GT, it was very stark. When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs. This will be much more than a Prologue type experience."

Geek reports that the PS4 game will have three modes: Campaign, Sports Mode and Arcade mode where players can compete online and vie for championships. The winners will be treated like real-life racers as their results will be recognized by the FIA via a Nations Cup and Manufacturers Cup.

"Within Gran Turismo Sport, there is going to be two flagship FiA championships running simultaneously throughout the year," said series creator Kazunori Yamauchi during the Paris Game Week press conference.

The awarding ceremony will be held at the FIA annual ceremony in Paris, France. Additionally, Sony plans to incorporate "Gran Turismo" into E-sports.

According to Polygon, "Gran Turismo Sport" will have beta testing next year and it has been planned that the game have PlayStation VR support.

Although Yamauchi has a track record of not keeping his promises, Ryan remains confident that they will be able to deliver the said game. Yamauchi apparently has been working on the game for a long time.

"Yeah, we're confident," Ryan said to Eurogamer. "There's nothing at this stage to suggest that he won't deliver on what was said. He's obviously been working on this for a while now, it's been a while since GT6 released, so we're confident."
