During a recent presentation of Nintendo Direct, it was announced that Final Fantasy VII's Cloud Strife will be offered as a playable character on the Super Smash Brothers game for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Watch the trailer here:

This new trailer shows off Cloud's variation of moves, including the character's unique limit breaks and Odin summons. Mashable says the game also features Cloud's assortment of costumes from the Final Fantasy games while carrying his trademark Buster Sword.

One of the costumes may have been based on the Advent Children movie, according to IGN.

The Smash Bros. website indicates that the Midgar stage will be released along with the FF7 character. As observed by Gamespot, this Final Fantasy-inspired backdrop includes a view of the Mako reactor.

Cloud's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. comes as a surprise for a lot of people as the Final Fantasy game never previously appeared on any Nintendo console. However, IGN reports that the character has appeared in a number of spinoffs such as Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Curtain Call for the Nintendo 3DS and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on the Game Boy Advance console.

The sword-wielding Cloud is the second character taken from a different game publisher that has been made available for this game. Back in June, Nintendo announced the release of Street Fighter's Ryu and the Suzaku Castle Stage for Super Smash Bros.

No announcements have been made yet regarding the release date or the price for Cloud although fans may not have to wait too long as Nintendo is planning to broadcast a special Nintendo Direct episode in December. The presentation is expected to give more updates about the fighting game.

Gamespot believes it is only a matter of time before Nintendo makes an announcement on releasing a Cloud Amiibo. The end of the trailer also shows shots of Chocobo-inspired costumes designed for Mii Fighter which indicates that more costumes from the Final Fantasy series may be coming up as well.

Nintendo Direct's most recent presentation also announced the launch of a new bundle for the Wii U. The Wii U Deluxe Set comes with the Wii U console and the games Super Smash Brothers and Splatoon.

This special bundle will be available for purchase this coming holiday season.

Nintendo Direct has also announced the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Prince HD. The game is set for release on March 4 with an amiibo designed after the characters Wolf Link and Midna.
