Mark Zuckerberg, wife Priscilla Chan welcome daughter 'Max' as couple pledges to donate 99% of Facebook wealth to charity

They have got the biggest blessing of their married life so far and, now, they are making sure to give back.

Facebook chair and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla have given birth to their first child and daughter, which the couple named Max. The pair has been together since 2012 and happily announced to the world that they were expectant parents back in July 2015.

Maxima Chan Zuckerberg was born just few days away from Thanksgiving and registered at 7 lbs. and 8 ounces, says a spokesperson from Facebook, wrote Mashable.

In a Facebook post entitled, "A letter to our daughter," the new dad expressed his feelings for their new-born on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

"Your mother and I don't yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Your new life is full of promise, and we hope you will be happy and healthy so you can explore it fully. You've already given us a reason to reflect on the world we hope you live in," said Zuckerberg. "Like all parents, we want you to grow up in a world better than ours today."

Also from the lengthy post, Zuckerberg made the public known of their plans as a couple to donate 99 percent of their Facebook shares, which has a current value of about $45 billion, according to The Verge. This is part of their Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in being one with the world in the advancement of human potential and promoting equality for all children in the next generation.

The Facebook cofounder expresses his optimism in the positive developments taking place in the world recently. He cited the improvements in health and technology, as well as the reduction in poverty, while knowledge and connection among people are growing.

He also said that the people of this generation has an obligation to do their part today in order to improve the lives of all those who will be part of the future generations. He also pledged his commitment in making this world better not only for his child, but also because of what he referred to as a moral responsibility to all children in the future.

"We believe all lives have equal value, and that includes the many more people who will live in future generations than live today. Our society has an obligation to invest now to improve the lives of all those coming into this world, not just those already here," Zuckerberg added.
