According to federal health officials, nut butter is related to the salmonella outbreak that made 11 people in nine states sick.

CNN reported that between July 18 and Oct.15, the victims started to feel sick. Fortunately, there is no death and hospitalization reported. This just means that their sickness is not that severe. However, it is still considered to be a serious matter knowing that it infected multiple individuals from different states. If the cause of the problem won't be discovered, a possibility of another outbreak is high.

The health officials interviewed eight of the salmonella-infected individuals and discovered that each one of them had eaten nut butter spreads within the week before feeling sick. Six out of eight patients claimed that they had consumed JEM Raw nut butter. This led to a conclusion that nut butter has something to do with the outbreak.

After being linked to the widespread salmonella outbreak, JEM Raw Chocolate, LLC voluntarily made a move by recalling the entire line of its nut spread products. The specific products that are being recalled are Cashew Cardamom, Cinnamon Red Maca, Hazelnut Raw Cacao and Superberry Maqui Camu. For the full list of details of the products being recalled, check the FDA site.

The products can be purchased online and in multiple stores. The company is urging retailers to pull out the products. They are also calling those who have bought the products that were distributed between the months of June and November to return or throw them.

Fox 40 stated that JEM Raw CEO Jen Moore cleared that none of their products tested positive with salmonella and that they are pulling out the products because their top priority is the safety of their consumers.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that the oldest patient for this outbreak is 79 years old while the youngest is 1 year old.

There are three cases reported in Oregon. On the other hand, there is one case each in New Jersey, New Carolina, Illinois, Idaho, Hawaii, Georgia, Colorado and California.

Salmonella Paratyphi B variant L(+) tartrate (+) has been identified as the salmonella type involved in this outbreak. It is the same type of salmonella related to the outbreak involving raw tuna earlier this year. Nonetheless, these two outbreaks are not related to one another.

As of now, state and local health officials, FDA and CDC are working together to pin point the root of this salmonella outbreak.
