With "Game of Thrones" season 6 looming near, rumors and theories are circulating around the internet regarding the fate of one of the most talked about character, Jon Snow. If the Lord Commander is alive in the next season, is it because Shireen Baratheon was "sacrificed" for him to live?

Book readers and series watchers alike share the same fate of not knowing what is to happen in the next season. The series ended with a cliffhanger based on the events of the fifth and latest book by George R.R. Martin entitled "A Dance with Dragons."

Since we are all stepping into fresh territory with no one knowing what happens next, fan theories have been making rounds around the internet. One particular fan theory pointed out by an article from Fashion & Style says that Melisandre was the one that allowed the Baratheon princess to be sacrificed so that Jon Snow could live.

Melisandre is a red priestess who is capable of seeing into the future through premonitions. According to the website, it could be possible that she had premonitions about Snow's demise which led her to push for Shireen's sacrifice to R'hllor, the Lord of Light in the guise of "securing the victory" for Stannis Baratheon.

As to whether Jon Snow is alive or dead in the new season remains debatable. However, Kit Harington who plays Snow was seen in Northern Ireland as the cast and crew celebrate the wrap of the season 6 filming with a party, according to the Independent. Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner and Liam Cunningham seem to be there as well. According to Watchers on The Wall, Melisandre actress Carice van Houten was also spotted in the area earlier this month.

With numerous characters in the series, it is not uncommon for them to have their own theories for the next season as well. One particular character that fans are clamoring for is Lady Stoneheart, a partial resurrection by Lord Beric Dondarrion after Catelyn Stark brutally died at the Red Wedding.

According to The Week, there might be a second Red Wedding to get revenge for the first one. In the books, Jaime Lannister is led by Brienne to a trap by Lady Stoneheart and the Brotherhood Without Banners. Jamie may be used to get into a Lannister wedding where they will exact their revenge.

However, it is not known if Lady Stoneheart will make an appearance in the next season or if Lord Beric will be making a comeback so theories will have to remain theories for now.

"Game of Thrones" season 6 will be coming to HBO on April 2016.
