For most household, Christmas and New Year will not be perfect without an abundance of food on the table. It is during this time when we tend to eat more than we usually do. Now that the holidays are over, it is time to detoxify.

According to Gaiam, detoxification means cleaning the blood. This is done by removing the toxins from the blood, liver, kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. If you are wondering how to start your detox, here are the top detox breaks and tips that you can incorporate into your routine for a healthier you in 2016.

  1. Start with juicing. Doing a juice cleanse in the New Year can be a great way to reset and rejuvenate and help you make balanced health and wellness choices for the year ahead," Steph Lowe, Australian Sports Nutritionist and founder of The Natural Nutritionist, told Daily Mail Online. "A day or two (or six, if you're experienced!) without food can seem like a daunting thing, but there are a few important considerations to make before, during and even after a cleanse to help set you up for success."
  2. Work out. Detox is not limited to what you take and what you don't take, exercising is another efficient way to detoxify your body. According to Tracey Robson-Garth, National Programs Manager at Fernwood Fitness, "Any type of cardio exercise that gets you huffing and puffing speeds up your body's detoxification process." She explained that exercise makes you sweat and toxins are released through exhalation, urine and sweat. Exercising encourages toxins to leave your body at a faster rate, Febfast  has learned.
  3. Take a detox massage. This can be expensive, but giving your body a soothing full-body massage with herbal-infused oil and specialized techniques to stimulate your body's Lymphatic system will also help and ease the elimination of toxin from your body. It also promotes circulation and restores a feeling of balance and clarity.
  4. Travel and take a detox break. This is pricey, but if you have the means, why not extend your holiday and travel to different places that offer different packages. For example, per Sun, Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina in Switzerland offers a Holistic Life Retreat that runs four times a year from January 9 to March 5 this winter. It combines four-morning session of yoga, two of aqua yoga, three holistic massages, three reflexology massages and a specially devised menu to help with the detox. You can also visit Bikini Bootcamp, Tulum in Mexico that also offers a tune up for the mind, body and spirit.
