Rumors about a sequel to the famous Ubisoft franchise “Assassin's Creed” are circulatin and, apparently, although it seems that fans will be waiting for it for some time, the wait just might be worth it.

The rumor which initially sprang in the ever-trustworthy 4chan said that the new game, which will be titled “Empire,” will take place in Ancient Egypt and will be released in 2017. This information reportedly came from a self-identified Ubisoft developer.

The rumors seems to have been confirmed by Kotaku's Jason Schreier who said that the new information lines up with what he's been personally hearing for some time now.

First, three different people who were familiar with the rumblings happening over at Ubisoft said that the next “Assassin's Creed” will be set in Ancient Egypt.

Next, two of those sources said that the next installment will be titled “Empire.”

Then, according to three sources, the sequel will be released in 2017. This seems to fit in with the fact that 2014's “Assassin's Creed: Unity” was a disappointment. Despite “Syndicate” receiving a warm welcome from fans, Ubisoft reportedly wants to give more time in developing the new game, so that it will be better than ever.

Here's the post from the self-identified Ubisoft developer. It can also be read in NeoGAF.

"Egypt. There won't be an AC in 2016. You may screencap this and refer to it when nothing is shown in E3 2016. You'll have to wait until 2017 for it. The reason: It will be a complete revamp of the series. The game is going for a Witcher feel, with player progression, freeform combat system. Horse is back, and boats too. It's made by the Black Flag team. You may leave any question you want answered."

The plan to set the game in Ancient Egypt will give Ubisoft some great help as they revamp the series, Game Radar reported. Putting the game in that place and time will give the sequel a more older setting, and will allow a lot of freedom in terms of both the storyline, narrative and game mechanics.

Although the game company cannot comment on the rumors, it says that it's "always happy when players are excited about our games, past, present and future."

Meanwhile, although there won't be a new “Assassin's Creed” big-time sequel this year, Ubisoft will be releasing two “Assassin's Creed” sidescroller games in January and February, as well as the Michael Fassbender-starred movie later in Dec. 21.
