As much as we'd like to hold our favorite celebrities on the highest of pedestals and revere them with great esteem, most of them also stumble and fall. They are every inch as human as we are and they falter in ways not worthy of our veneration. In Hollywood, for instance, reports of different forms of addiction and substance abuse among celebs abound. Here are some of the Latino celebrities who tried to battle their way out of it.

Demi Lovato

The former Disney star admitted in an interview with Access Hollywood that she was into drug use at a young age and it even came to a point where she couldn't last without cocaine for an hour. She would even bring it with her when she travels by plane.

Demi entered rehab back in 2010 to combat her addiction and she released her first book, entitled "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year," wherein she shares her journey from addiction and depression struggles and how she managed to successfully deal with it, says E! News.

Eva Mendes

The Cuban-American actress also openly admitted to her problem with substance abuse and, in 2008, she also placed herself inside a rehab facility.

"Eva Mendes was submitted into Utah's Cirque Lodge in February 2008 due to the abuse of various substances. It was said that she would rely on alcohol to be able to shoot scenes with sexual content," wrote Latin Times.

Oscar De La Hoya

The Golden Boy of boxing also opened up about his drugs and alcohol abuse. He also went to rehab for treatment and even joined the non-profit organization Alcoholics Anonymous to help him stay sober at that time, according to Fox Sports.

Charlie Sheen

The "Two and a Half Men" actor who recently opened up about his HIV also had to deal with addiction. There were reports of cocaine overdose and different stints in the rehab. Perez Hilton reported late last year about his continuous smoking of crack for years. Apart from this, he also had to deal with his problem with alcohol addiction and women.

Diego Armando Maradona

"Diego Armando Maradona, one of the most important soccer players of all times, also opted to abuse drugs when he hit fame. And, it was not until he suffered a heart attack that it finally hit him and made him rethink his behavior, according to Latin Times.

One of the most popular sports icon from Argentina rue the possibility of achieving more in terms of his career but was stymied by his cocaine and alcohol abuse during his playing days.
