It's still a long wait before Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) return to the small screen, but the team behind the hit BBC series keeps on satiating the fans' thirst for teasers on "Sherlock" Season 4. Show creator Steven Moffat had a chat with Entertainment Weekly, spilling that there are consequences coming to the lives of the famous detective and his buddy Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman). Will there be a major death in Season 4?

According to Crossmap, Steven Moffat has left some clues in the past seasons of "Sherlock" that fans have not yet noticed. These clues, according to the publication, will play an important role in Season 4, leading to some major consequences.

Crossmap speculates that the said consequences might come to the lives of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and his wife Mary. In "Sherlock" Season 3, it was shown that these lead characters are in good terms with each other, with the detective liking Dr. Watson's wife. However, the publication says that things will drastically turn for the worse in Season 4, with Mary possibly dying.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Moffat said, "You can sort of see that in the way series 3 went. It's great that he's back and John's [Martin Freeman] got a wife and Sherlock [Benedict Cumberbatch] likes her and isn't it adorable, and then it all goes to hell. Remember where we left them."

"[Season 4] is going to be… I suppose you’d say… consequences. It’s consequences. Chickens come to roost. It’s dark in some ways -- obviously it’s great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that -- but there’s a sense of… things… coming back to bite you," he added.

Mark Gatiss, talking to The Telegraph, also spilled some beans regarding Mary's death.

"While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did. So [Watson] gets married and then Mary dies -- so at some point presumably she'll die,"

If this is indeed true, Crossmap says that the story is just sticking to the original Conan Doyle work. In the original story, Mary died. Rumors, per the outlet, says that she might die during childbirth.

However, juicy as it may seem, these are just speculations on what fans may expect in Season 4. Gatiss also said via Telegraph, "Just because it's in the stories doesn't mean it'll happen in the series because there's an awful lot of changes and an awful lot of places to go and things to do."
