Have you ever wondered why some people can't get rid of those belly fat after doing the same fitness program for the last 6 months? They spend several hours a week at the gym pushing their bodies to the limits trying to get that perfect looking abs. It is definitely discouraging when people kill themselves at the gym but see no changes after a few months.

If you are one of those people, you may want to start evaluating your fitness regimen and try something else that might actually work. You may also want to think of other reasons why you are not losing those extra fats like your lifestyle and daily diet.

Here are some of the common reasons why most people don't seem to get rid of those extra fats on their belly even if they do a ton of abs exercises.

Sometimes, people think they are doing the right workout for their abs but they are not. According to an article from Shape, cardio workouts like running and jump rope are great exercises to lose significant amount of weight. However, the longer you do cardio exercises, the body will adapt to the habit and your metabolism adjusts in the process. If this happens, you will no longer be burning calories.

People should remember that having the right amount of sleep every night is one of the best tools to lose weight. The body has to rest after a tiring day at work and sweating it out at the gym. It will take away the stress factor, which is a major contributor to the bulging belly fat.

Age will also matter in losing those belly fats. As a person gets older, his or her body changes how it loses and gains weight. The metabolism will change as well as the nutrients the body needs to function properly. Health shared Dr. Michael Jensen, a professor at the Mayo Clinic's endocrinology division, said that, as women get older, they tend to have their belly size increased.

"If women gain weight after menopause, it's more likely to be in their bellies," the doctor said.

One of the most common reasons why you still have your belly fat after a few months of working out is you probably eat too much processed foods. Your weekend escapade with friends consuming carb-rich snacks and sweetened drinks is not helping your fitness program achieve your goal. Exercise must go along with proper diet for it to be more effective.
