Google adds 4K movies for Play Movies & TV store, more titles to come soon

Google has rocked headlines once again. After YouTube - currently owned by Google, announced the 4K Live Streaming Feature, Google has released a select number of 4K movies on its Google Play Movies & TV store accessible through Android devices. 

Amazon and Netflix started providing 4K movies both for rent and sale in the past, whereas Google did it just now, although it promises users with way better experiences. According to Tech Crunch, the California tech giant will upload 125 4K resolution movies all on VP9 format, all of which are available through mobile and web. 

Google will supply users with more title updates soon. Users can enjoy 4K resolution movies on Chromecast via Sony Bravia Android TV, Chromecast Ultra, and Xiaomi Mi Box 3.

Google will charge for 4K resolution movies at USD 8 on rentals, and the charges for purchases will be between USD 25 to USD 30, as mentioned by Phonescoop. The movies are available in SD, HD, and UHD versions; UHD is the 4K resolution and will cost almost double the price of HD. 

Google updated its Chromecast products and recently listed Samsung Smart TVs as among those that will be able to stream 4K resolution movies. To boost sales of Chromecast Ultra, Google will offer one free 4K resolution movie title, free of cost.

Despite lagging behind Amazon and Netflix in releasing 4K movies, Google is not the last one to add the feature. Hulu, at a much later time, unveiled the 4K resolution feature with limited support to only 20 James Bond films.

Users can open Google Play Movies & TV store and download or rent 4K movies. However, 4K movies are directly available from Google Play Movies & TV, and not Google Play Store. 

Currently, the 4K movies are not yet available for the masses, as its availability is currently limited to Chromecast Ultra and selected products.
