"God of War 4," now officially referred to as "God of War," is the fourth installment of the third person action/adventure video game. It was first confirmed during this year's E3 press conference in June. Sony's Santa Monica revealed the PS4-exclusive with a brand-new trailer.

The trailer not only confirms the Norse setting but it also showcases that Kratos will have a son and that major elements of the series have been altered. Since then, updates regarding its release have been pretty quiet.

The "God of War 4", according to Den of geek, will still feature protagonist Kratos but this time he will be accompanied by his son. The gameplay trailer that was released during the conference showcase a glimpse of what is in store for fans.

The game now features over-the-shoulder camera which a player can easily rotate instead of a distant and fixed camera. The fast-pace action of the series is still intact but the use of quick time events has been reduced considerably. Though context-sensitive controls are still present, they are now used primarily to control Kratos's son.

The video also features Kratos and his son on a deer hunt, it seemed different from the previous series but the fun returned when demons appeared and Kratos' axe became more than just a wood chopper tool.

Kratos' son is named Charlie and he is estimated to have inherited god powers from Kratos. The game will feature a single button to tell Charlie what to do, the options are programmed to change based on the situation.

According to Gamenguide, the trailer showcases Kratos asking his son to fire arrows at the enemy and to retreat when they become too many. The gameplay trailer of "God of War 4" also teased the new combat style of Kratos and enhanced features.

Contrary to what many fans expected, the game will not feature a multiplayer mode. Charlie's appearance in the game may hint fans on the possibility of multiplayer mode but reports stated that it is less likely due to the lacking depths of a multiplayer mode.

The report also confirmed that god of war 4 is not a reboot, although the game is set in Norse mythology instead of Greek mythology. Fans speculate that the Norse gods may have taken over after Kratos destroyed the Greek pantheon in "God of War 3."

Despite not being a reboot the game does forego the "God of War 4" title and is simply marketed as "God of War." There is no news on the release date but it is rumored that it will be delayed due to some technical issues.

One of those issues is the lack of qualified people working on the development of the game. This speculation arose after Santa Monica posted a job advertisement on their website, stating that they were looking for experienced developers who would be part of the completion of the game.

Sony Interactive Entertainment's Cory Barlog also revealed via his Twitter account that it is not the recently hired people of the development team that is causing the delay, instead, they are helping to make things easier and faster.

The creative director explained that the game is akin to "The Last of Us" mixing with the classic "God of War" games. He also said that Kratos will teach Charlie to be a god and Charlie will teach Kratos how to regain his humanity. The game still has no official release date but it is expected to be released in 2017.
