Diabetes itself is a very common and most dangerous disease almost everyone is suffering from nowadays. It becomes very sensitive when a pregnant woman gets diabetic because then it becomes more dangerous and harmful to baby's health.

Recently a research was shown at the important annual meeting of the famous European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging [EACVI] in Leipzig, Germany. According to the research, diabetes can be very serious for a pregnant woman. Even it can be possible that the pregnant mother may have a premature delivery with baby's poor brain development.

Sources of Eureka Alert reveal that Dr Aparna Kulkarni, a paediatric cardiologist from the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Centre in New York did a research on foetuses of the diabetic pregnant lady and non-diabetic pregnant woman and she found the differences.

The research was about 14 foetuses inside mothers with type 1 or type 2 diabetes versus 16 foetuses inside mothers without diabetes. Out of 14 diabetic pregnant women, nine women take insulin; three use oral medications and two maintain a diet to control the glucose level.

Doctors did every possible test to get the actual risk factors of diabetic mother and baby. Researchers even used the unique foetal Doppler echocardiography. The aim was to measure accurately the blood flow to the brain.

According to Science Daily, "The researchers used foetal Doppler echocardiography to measure blood flow to the brain, the left and right outflow tracts of the heart, the aorta, and the placenta."

The research also added that "compared to foetuses in the control group, in foetuses of diabetic mothers more blood flowed to the placenta and was diverted away from the brain."

The worst part of this condition is, it may lead to poor placental resistance, lesser blood flow to the brain than the placenta, lesser blood flow to the arteries and minimum cardiac output. All together it will create poor brain development.

Researchers are saying that poor blood flow to the brain is the maximum risk factor that will not allow womb to grow properly and will obstruct the development. Though placenta can be taken off after delivery still Dr Kulkarni cannot ignore the risk factor. Moreover, it will create a negative impact on the baby's quality of life.

During pregnancy glucose level gets a little high normally due to hormonal changes, but it should be under control. Dr Kulkarni suggests all pregnant women check their glucose level every day and strictly regulate the glucose intake.

In a word, acute care is essential to check this diabetic problem. The key fact should be accurately addressed so that the baby can be gifted with absolutely normal and healthy condition.
