John Mayer Insists He Meant No Harm After Labelling Taylor Swift’s Birthday As The ‘Lamest Day of the Year’

John Mayer insists he meant no harm after labelling ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift's birthday as the 'Lamest Day of the Year'. Taylor Swift celebrated her 27th birthday on December 13.

Mayer caused a ruckus when he apparently took a dig at his ex-girlfriend Swift by posting a tweet which said, "Tuesday, December 13 may be the lamest day of the year, conceptually." But 10 minutes later when Swift's followers started putting two and two together, he deleted his original tweet.

The "Love on the Weekend" singer posted another tweet defending himself. "NOPE. No. Nuh-uh. People I am 39. I am deleting those tweets. Come right at me for doing so. Absolutely no shade," he wrote. Mayer insisted he meant 'no shade' at his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift. He also added a heart emoji at the end of his second tweet to show that he meant no ill.

However, fans of the "Love Story" singer were not in a mood to forgive and continued hitting back on Mayer with tweets and messages. On December 14, calling attention to the reactions to his previous tweets, Mayer posted yet another tweet: "Looks like I shouldn't have deleted this tweet..."

Mayer and Swift were dating each other back in 2009. The things went sour and they had washed their dirty linen in public back then. Swift had released a track titled "Dear John" which was apparently directed at Mayer. In June 2012, Mayer had told Rolling Stone that he felt humiliated by the track and it made him feel horrible.

"Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do," he had told the magazine.

Recently when Swift and Mayer found themselves at Drake's 30th birthday bash, the "You Belong With Me" singer avoided any drama. "Taylor stayed at her table [with the] crew she came with," an insider was quoted.
