The 'Breakfast Club' favorite will have a recurring cast member on the CW Archie Comics drama. The CW's Riverdale has enlisted a key member of the Brat Pack in the network's upcoming drama.

Molly Ringwald has booked a recurring role on the forthcoming Riverdale drama. Riverdale is set in present day and based on the Archie Comics characters from Warner Bros TV. Its cast members include, Archie (KJ Apa), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Josie (Ashleigh Murray), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), and their friends.

The series comes from mega-producer Greg Berlanti. It explores the surrealism of small town life, and also the darkness beneath Riverdale's wholesome mask. It is a dark and destructive take on the famous Archie comics that places the characters in the middle of a murder mystery.

According to THR, Ringwald will portray the role of Mary Andrews, Archie's mother. She left Riverdale two years ago to pursue her dreams, Mary returns to town when her family needs her most.

Upon her return, she did not only reconnect with her husband (Fred) and her son (Archie), but also with her former high school friends Alice and Hermione, just in time for a homecoming dance. It is also reported that Ringwald will appear in episodes 10 and 11.

Ringwald rose to fame in the 1980s in John Hughes' classic films Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club, as Paige in Raising Expectations on Family Channel.

Other movies she featured include The Secret Life of the American Teenager which aired for five seasons on the then ABC Family, Jem and the Holograms, and recently reoccured in Odd Mom Out. She is represented by Untitled Entertainment and Barking Dog Entertainment, according to TVGuide.

Although the young actors taking on the roles of Archie, Betty and Veronica (Camila Mendes) are unfamiliar, the adults will be familiar to people who grew up in the '80s and '90s, which is a brilliant way to attract the attention of older viewers.

The series also features, in addition to Ringwald, Luke Perry as Archie's father, and Madchen Amick appears as Betty's mother. Roberto Aguirre Sacasa wrote the pilot script and produces Riverdale alongside Berlanti, Jon Goldwater and Sarah Schechter. Riverdale premieres Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. on The CW.
