In a heartbreaking scenario, dozens of people have died in the Siberian city of Irkutsk after consuming alcohol substitute. It was reported that the main reason behind these deaths were alcohol poisoning.

The sudden mishap brought back the haunting memories of social depression and poverty that took over Russia after collapse of the Soviet Union.

This event appeared to be a waking alarm for President Putin, who might be taking on the global stage addressing issues including the war in Syria. In fact, many observers believe these recent deaths also showed that Russia is still a struggling power on the global stage.

Till recent news, there has been 48 deaths from consuming alcohol substitute, a bath tincture, in Irkutsk and a state of emergency has been declared.  These deaths have also brought back the controversy  of consuming substitute alcohol in Russia. These substitutes include perfume, window cleaner and medical ethanol.

The deaths in the Siberian city, Irkutsk are believed to have caused by a fraudulent set of Boyaryshnik. Boyaryshnik is a concentrated liquid, which is sold in the market as relaxant which one needs to add to their bath water. The main reason behind its growing use, is because it costs less than vodka.

According to the police, they have discovered an underground workshop manufacturing fake Boyaryshnik. That's not all, they have also discovered several fake bottles of famous vodka brands.

Till now, two people have been detained as per Russia's Investigative Committee. However, as per the other reports, five people have been detained. P.M. Medvedev said, "We cannot put up with this any longer. We must take all measures either to get this kind of product off the market, or to ensure full control of the way they are sold."

He further instructed the ministers to punish and get hold of black marketers selling fake alcohol along with tightening the law for harsh punishments.
