Facebook is launching a new feature that will let the users change the background color that appears behind the status updates.

The users will now be able to add background colors to text-only posts, reports TNW. The feature, which was first spotted by TechCrunch and later made official by Facebook, gives users several colors to choose from.

Instead of the normal  white background, the users will have the option to change the color to yellow, red, purple, black, orange and variations of blue among others. The color options also offer an Instagram logo-style color gradient.

Facebook has confirmed that this feature with a colored background for status updates is in testing. It appears that the social media giant is testing the feature only in certain regions abroad, not in the US. The users who don't have access to the testing can't see the colors if they look at the post with a colored background.

Using the new feature is as easy as it sound like. When a user will try to post a status update, posts with a pop of color in the background will show up. To use it, the users will have to tap on the status bar, choose a color from the choices provided below the text, write the message and at last tap on the post. The new feature will work only for text-based updates and not for links, images or video posts.

Colored status backgrounds will be rolling out globally over the next few days. As of now, only Android users will be able to use this feature of status with colored backgrounds, but everyone on iOS, Android and web will be able to see them in the News Feed. The iOS and web users will be able to use this feature of colorful posts in the coming months.
