War for the Planet of the Apes, the third film of the reboot series picks up two years after the conclusion of 2014's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes". The movie has a big connection with the first two original Apes movies.

A young girl can be spotted with the gorilla Maurice in the first trailer for the "War for the Planet of the Apes". She is seen in the beginning of the trailer, hugging Maurice tightly and riding a horse as Caesar stared at her.

The super-intelligent Caesar and his simian tribe face an uncertain future with the remaining of the military heading straight for them. Years into the conflict, Caesar is now a changed and battle-hardened ape that is on the verge of losing all sympathy for humans.

In order to protect his tribe, Caesar undertakes a desperate mission to assassinate the leader of the human forces, the fearsome Colonel Woody Harrelson's character. It is during this journey that Caesar and his companions find the young girl named Nova (Amiah Miller).

This young girl is the same mute character played by Linda Harrison in the original "Planet of the Apes" and "Beneath the Planet of the Apes". Linda Harrison starred as Nova alongside Charlton Heston in both series. It is confirmed that the Nova of War for the Planet of the Apes is indeed the same character as the one Harrison played, according to EW.

Director Matt Reeves revealed that the girl is included to highlight that the battle is not just between the humans and the apes, but also in Caesar's soul. "The girl is his pull back to his empathy and for lack of a better word, his human side."

Although the continuity between the reboot series and the original films is still unclear, Nova's appearance is the most overt connection. However, minor connections have been previously established but only include references and Easter eggs.

The "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" also features news casts members referring to a lost spaceship called Icarus, which is also the name of the vessel carrying Taylor (Charlton Heston) in the Planet of the Apes, according to IGN.

War for the Planet of the Apes will hit theaters June 15, 2017.
