With the new year just around the corner, it's time to know what all will make big in the food world in 2017. You might just get to see lot of purple foods on your plate along with an explosion of Filipino food.

Here are the top eight food trends to lookout for in 2017 as predicted by the Whole Foods Market:

Wellness Tonics and Drinks - The new year will bring in a new wave of tonics, tinctures and wellness drinks. The wave of well tonics will go far beyond the fresh-pressed juice craze. Tonics and wellness drinks will be made from botanicals that have roots in alternative medicine. The few products on top of the trend are Kor Organic Raw Shots, Suja Drinking Vinegars and Temple Turmeric Elixirs.

Using the Byproducts - The food producers are finding creative and delicious ways to use byproducts. This will be like giving a new life to the manufacturing byproducts like whey from yogurt production to make probiotic drinks or reusing the liquid left after cooking chickpeas to make vegan mayo, reports Health.

Coconut in Everything - Coconut-based products such as coconut flour tortillas and coconut sugar aminos will top the charts in 2017.

Japanese Food, More Than Sushi - Celebrated condiments like ponzu, miso, mirin, sesame oil and plum vinegar are making their way in the markets. The Japanese-style pickles will also become favorites in 2017.

Season of Creative Condiments - Interesting brand new and old condiments will gain popularity. Black sesame tahini, habanero jam, ghee, pomegranate molasses, black garlic puree, date syrup, piri piri sauce and plum jam with chia sees will find a place on consumers' plates.

Healthy Pasta - Noodles and pasta made from grains like quinoa, lentils and chickpeas (which are gluten free) will continue to remain favorites. Also grain-free options for noodles made from spiralized veggies and kelp are coming in the picture.

Power of Purple - Purple foods like purple cauliflower, black rice, purple asparagus, elderberries, acai, purple sweet potatoes and purple corn are becoming the fast growing trend.

Oven Ready Meals - With the shoppers looking out for healthier options that require less time, the fresh oven-ready meal kits and vegetable medleys will become popular in 2017.
