In October 2016 Microsoft entered the All-in-one desktop market with the launch of surface pro studio and created a lot of buzz.. Seeing the market enthusiasm it was inevitable for the arch-rival Apple to not revive its desktop line.

Surprisingly Apple has not updated the iMac in more than a year. Rumoured to be sidelining the desktop for the more saleable Iphones and ipads, the company sets the record straight - iMac is here to stay!

According to Tech Crunch, Apple CEO Tom Cook confirms that Desktop development is strategic for the company's growth. Today's generation prefers portable (and smaller) devices over the fixed desktops but Cook underlines iMac's Bigger and high-resolution 5K screen, Larger Storage and Memory, More Input/ Output options and Better overall performance as the strength of its desktop offering.

As reported in Macworld, Cook said "The current generation iMac is the best desktop we have ever made and its beautiful retina 5k display is the best desktop display in the world. Some folks in the media have raised the question about whether we are committed to desktops. If there is any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap."

The upcoming iMac is rumoured to feature the latest Intel Kaby lake processor i7-7700, future ready USB-C ports, faster Flash storage as standard, powerful AMD radeon polaris graphics chip and possibly Virtual reality capabilities too!

The speculated processor adds support for Thunderbolt 3, Display port 1.2 and USB 3.1, it is rumoured to be clocked quite high at 4.2 Ghz in general and to an insane 4.8 Ghz.when overclocked.

The major apple events usually fall around September in Autumn, March in Spring and June in Summer. Considering Apple's development cycle, previous trend and latest speculations the new iMac is expected by June next year.
