The discussion was there about the shutdown of the Cyanogen, and now it is the reality. On December 23rd Cyanogen ultimately announced that all services related to it will shut down by the end of the year that is on December 31st. This shut down also includes the nightlies for Cyanogen -supported builds.

In a recent blog post, Cyanogen has finally declared the decision. Previously, some serial incidents took place in the management. The authority ousted Kirk McMaster from the post of CEO and appointed Lior Tal as the new CEO.

Even the authority made an announcement of the modular OS. The list of incidents was long, and the arena of technology has witnessed so many things, and now the ultimate aftermath is here.

Cyanogen OS is considered as the popular custom Android ROM.

Cyanogen OS tried to defeat or kill the Android operating system, but the true fact is the operating system itself is shutting down all the essential custom services that are already provided to the phones.

The aim of the Cyanogen was to build a far better operating system compared to the operating system, created by Google. But the task was not so easy. The most unfortunate fact is the authority has to face a lot of technical issues, even some legal issues, which ultimately led them to shut down the project.

Now the million dollar question is what will be the ultimate fate of those smartphones that are using Cyanogen OS. The first thing is no further updates will be available regarding the Cyanogen OS from January 2017.

Even the users can't avail any security updates and nightly builds.

Smartphones like One Plus One and Lenovo ZUK Z1 must be the worst victims of this situation. It can be possible that the companies of these smartphones may switch to the open source version of the CyanogenMod operating system.

It is necessary to mention that CyanogenMod operating system is mainly managed by a community of developers. It is not any commercial operating system. The interesting fact is this CyanogenMod OS is mainly led by the Steve Kondik, the co-founder of Cyanogen.

The developer's community of the CyanogenMod has served for eight long years and now they are preparing for a new 'open-source Android project'. The team is now working to prepare source code for the CyanogenMod and the pending patches.

Currently, Lineage OS, a new project, will take some more time for the ultimate launch. The CyanogenMod team has announced that the new OS will maintain the professional quality and will provide the reliable service that the users previously expected.

A website is already developed for the LineageOS, and the CyanogenMod files can be found in the GitHub repository. The files are called Lineage Android Distribution. This is a continuous process of the CyanogenMod.

The present scenario has unveiled a series of questions and queries and users of the Cyanogen OS have to wait some more days to avail the final answer.
