Top 10 Worst Tech Failures and Fake News of 2016

"With great power, comes great responsibilities", although this monolog is from comic and those who are into MCU and DCEU know about it, it is the same for bigger corporations and personalities. As this year summons 2017, here is a list of 10 hoax or fake news and some worst tech failures which garnered hits at lightning speed.

1. Apple VS The FBI over Encryption 

Apple is bigger than any brand in the world in the tech circuits. In 2016, 14 people were killed in San Bernardino by two terrorists who were shot to the dead aftermath, however, when FBI recovered attacker's locked iPhone, it contacted Apple to unlock it. Although, Apple raised a helping hand but a court order depicting that Apple must create a backdoor to breach the security on which Apple completely denied creating anything that could endanger any iPhone on possession. The fierce battle ended and things tend to come up when Encryption comes into play, CNBC quoted.  

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on fire a Hoax 
Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 7 last year alongside Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, but Note 7 reported battery issues and at some points it was on fire as per reports. Although  Samsung discontinued its manufacturing and sales, it received 26 false reports of Note 7 catching fire. The highest number of 9 was recorded in the United States. The Galaxy Note 7 was recalled after many instances were reported which spooked customers.

3. Headphone "No-Jack" 
The iPhone 7 released in September 2017 with cool techs and features. The Apple fusion A10 fusion chip works way faster than any other smartphones. But here is where Apple failed. Apple unveiled the new iPhone 7 "without" headphone jack thereby disrupting the 140 years of technology where Headphone Jack notices very fewer changes. At first, Apple was widely criticized but soon other manufacturers started developing their own "Jack-less" smartphones.

4. Hogan vs Gawker.
Gawker is a gossip blog which has a number of sister websites linked to it. In August 2016, Gawker uploaded a video of WWF wrestler Hulk Hogan sex tape which garnered a huge response. Hulk Hogan asked the website to pull the video down, but Nick Denton, founder of Gawker refused after which Hulk Hogan filed a case and eventually won resulting in Gawker demise and it was sold for $135 million to Gizmodo. 

5. Twitter shuts Vine from Social Networks

Although Twitter is one of the biggest social networks, it noticed stagnant user base growth. It released Vine where users can create 6-second videos, however, Twitter shut the application after it received much anticipation and suddenly collapse. Earlier, brands like Google showed interest in buying Twitter but now it seems like all have lost interest. Twitter has reported not too much profit and has already shelved off 350 employees.

6. Craze of Modular Phone faded
Google Ara was supposed to be the most anticipated modular phone where the user can switch the component as per requirements. At the very beginning of 2016, Modular craze began to widespread with smartphones like LG G5 which became the smartphone with replacable components. Similar, Motorola which is owned by Lenovo followed the steps and came up with a number of Mods that are still is used, however, its the lack of interest which draws the crowd out of Modular phones. Google Ara project was the biggest Modular phone and it is disappointing that it met an unfortunate end. 

7. Pebble shots dead and Fitbit acquires it.
Pebble, a pioneer in wrist smartwatch making even before Apple and Samsung Smartwatch came into play. It was the former notification based smartwatch but had to close doors. Fitbit was in talk to acquire it and finally Pebble came into Fitbit acquisition list after it was sold for somewhere between $34 Million and $40 Million. Customers who had purchased Pebble smartwatch will cease to have the warranty and the sales of Pebble 2 have been discontinued. 

8.  VR escalating the pain.
Having a Virtual Reality Headset is extremely easy now. Grab Samsung Gear VR or Google's Daydream View Headset or HTC Vive for cool $800. Although VR is a cool tech, it is still difficult to understand by Layman people. Other problems that currently exist are nest of wire to connect. VR has a long way to go. 

9. 2016 -  The year of Hackers

2016 was worst when it comes to hacking attempts. It was in 2016 when Yahoo disclosed that more than 500 million accounts were attached in 2014. In 2016, Dyn, an Internet Domain Name system provider was attacked by hackers which resulted in flicker in websites like Spotify, PayPal, GitHub, etc. In 2016, amidst the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election, 20,000 emails were publicized by hackers sent or received by The Democratic National Committee.

10. 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

It was a fake news amidst the Presidential Election in 2016 when it was rumored that Pope endorsed Donald Trump - then President-Elect. Further, the series of fake news came plunging websites like Google and Facebook when the former changed the titled of its news section to Top Stories. Facebook tried combating the issue by hiring officials for fast checking to curb fake news.
